The Best Pet Safe Cleaning Products

There are too many cleaning products on the market to name, but the one thing that most, if not all synthetic cleaners have in common is, they are bad for your pets. Your pets are part of the family and you want to protect them from harsh chemicals as much as you want to protect yourself and your children. Below are five of the best pet safe cleaning products that you can incorporate into your cleaning routine.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is one of the multi-purpose cleaning products that everybody should have in their home. It is an effective deodorant, a great mild abrasive, and a fantastic foaming cleanser. You can sprinkle it on carpets and wood floors, mix it with hot water and salt to create a scrub, and combine it with lemon juice as a replacement for your typical foaming cleaners that you would use in the bathroom and the kitchen.

White Vinegar

This is the second mainstay that any pet friendly cleaner should have on hand. Use it to clean wood floors, as an all-purpose cleaner, to effectively clean windows and to remove carpet stains. White vinegar is a cleaning product that is strong enough to tackle tough grime, but gentle enough to not harm the dog or cat.

Borax

Borax is your heavy-duty, pet friendly cleaning product. You can use borax for those tough to tackle carpet stains, mixing it with 1/2 a cup of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of salt, and 2 tablespoons of borax for a carpet cleaner that really packs an eco-friendly punch. It's also a great bleach substitute for your laundry, whitening whites and removing stains.

Mineral oil

Mineral oil is a great substitute for stainless steel appliance and furniture cleaner. Mineral oil is terrific at repelling stains, stickiness and fingerprints, and you don't have to worry about the pets getting sick if they are attracted to the smell and end up giving it a taste. It is cheap and effective.

Lemon

Lemon is another pet friendly cleaner to add to your green cleaning arsenal. The acid in lemons is both a dissolver and a disinfectant. Combine it with vinegar and baking soda to add more disinfecting power, as well as a fresh, natural scent, and use it all over your home. Your pets are not going to like the taste of lemon anyways, but even if they decide to give it a try, it's just going to leave them with a bad taste in their mouth.

As a pet owner, part of your responsibility is protecting them from themselves. Dogs and cats interact with the world by tasting and smelling, so keep the above pet friendly cleaning products in mind and make sure the curiosity of your furry family members doesn't put them in harm's way.
